Loving the Spring Weather

01 May

The weather has finally taken a turn and it’s pretty consistently warm now…some days warmer than others, but at least we can shed the winter coats once and for all!

We’ve been tackling our lawn as our major summer project.  When they built the house, they just threw down some seed on a bed of clay and gravel and since we can’t afford sod, we’re having to coax our lawn to life, one small bit at a time.

In the meantime, Kira loves going outside.  You have to be careful to say the words “go”, “walk”, or “outside”, because she’ll run to the door and cry if she doesn’t get taken out immediately.

I have to pick every single dandelion I come across

I'm pretty sure I can lift this rock

I guess these rocks will have to do instead

Growing my own sponges!

25 Apr

Did you know you can grow these! ? !

I discovered the seeds when browsing all the seed packets at Target and couldn’t resist buying a pack.  Apparently these are things you can eat when they’re young, which…yuck.  Eating a bath sponge?  I don’t think I could psychologically handle that.  If you let them grow long enough and dry out, they become those loofa sponges that you pay a fortune to get at the store.  I’m going to start the seeds inside right away and move them outside after the frosts are done.

I’m very excited!

Swimming & Stuff

29 Mar

We took Kira swimming at the grown-up pool as part of a family play date on Saturday.  I was a little worried at how she’d do in a pool, since she freaked out in a little wading pool when she was 5 months old.  Ten months later, I was hoping she’d forgotten that traumatic experience and was ready to enjoy the fun that is water.

She was a little unsure/clingy at first, but got pretty relaxed really quickly.  Soon she was floating around, letting Daddy dunk her (which I got on video in case it should ever be needed in court – LOL), and generally having a great time.

Do I look just like my Daddy, or what?

Then of course, a few more random shots:

Ready to go for a walk

Checking out these wood chips

Mommy, can I eat the wood chips?

Climbing up on the porch

Someone want to open the front door, please?

Daddy calming me down at the doctor's office

Climbed in here all by myself

A Touch of Spring

19 Mar

Well, the weather got nice for all of about two weeks, so Kira and I have been enjoying it with walks around the neighborhood and around in the yard.  She wasn’t so sure about the feel of sidewalk and yard under her bare feet at first, but once she got used to it, I think she’d rather be outside than inside.

Running down the driveway!

Strolling up and down the sidewalk

Hmmm...the sidewalk seems to have ended.

We also decided to open up her bedroom to her so that she’d have more places to play during the day and also so that we can start moving some of her toys in there and out of the living room.  We child proofed it by putting up all the choke-able things and bolting the bookcase to the wall.  She promptly went to work messing it up with all the happiness of a 15-month-old.

And…another attempt by Daddy to entertain the young’un.

Trip to the Museum

13 Mar

I took Kira to the First Impressions room at the local science museum for children, Impression 5.  She had a great time running around playing with all the new toys in the room.  Later we explored the rest of the museum, which was a little more advanced for her, but she did like the comet display, even when a group of small children trampled her to the floor in the dark when they didn’t see her.

In water-table duds, checking things out

All those toys and still found the books

Walking through the heart

Inside a giant eyeball

Souvenirs: Bug catching net and a bouncy ball

Check out this giant mouth!
