8 Months Old

22 Aug

Another month has come and gone and Kira is already 8 months old.  She’s got two little teeth now, can stand up very well (although she can’t pull herself up yet), and is on the cusp of scooting around/crawling.  Her hair is really filling out and getting long and we’re starting to have to clip it back to keep it out of her eyes because we can’t bring ourselves to cut it yet.  She’s still the most awesome baby ever and goes to bed at night giggling away.

Summer is nearing an end already and soon it will be time to break out the fall wardrobe.  That’s a good thing in this household, as Kira has almost outgrown every summer outfit she’s got and I don’t want to pay for anything new this late in the year.  Life is pretty routine for us, working during the week and resting on the weekends.  We’re trying to sell our house in New Zealand so we can pay off our house here, then hopefully be in a new place next spring.

On an awesome news note:  In just over a month, Joseph’s sister from New Zealand will be here for a nice visit.  It’s been over 2 years since we’ve seen her (when we left New Zealand) and Kira can’t wait to meet her Auntie Simone.  Hopefully she’ll have gotten over her stranger anxiety by then, because right now she cries at most strangers who try to hold her (Kira, not Simone) :)

Joseph’s New Office

15 Jun

I redecorated Joseph’s office for his Father’s Day gift.  It basically was our storage room with a desk and an old futon in it and was really quite a mess.  I wanted to give him a room in which he could relax and read, or work, or play computer games, and be comfortable and relaxed doing it.

So I cleaned it all out, did some painting, added a few accessories, and voila!  Three days of grueling hot work later…  Joseph was really happy with it and liked it a lot.

 Slideshow

Note:  If you ever consider painting a room red, think about it for 3 days and then realize that 3 days is as long as it will take you to do just one wall.  Red paint is evil.

Happy Easter & Happy Spring!

17 Apr

Kira just finished celebrating her first Easter.  She had a pretty little pink dress with pink tights and little white shoes.  Unfortunately, due to the chilly Easter Sunday, she had to cover her chubby little arms with a pink sweater.  But she was happy to pose for a couple of shots.  She emptied her Easter basket out herself; she’s just now starting to grasp things.

4 Weeks Old and Joseph’s Birthday

16 Jan

Kira is 4 weeks old today!  I can’t believe it.  Seems like just yesterday she was being born.  Time is really flying.  She’s doing really well, holding her head up a lot, following objects with her head and eyes, and looking at us.  Most of the time she’s pretty content and not fussy, although she does have her squalling moments.  She sleeps about 4-5 hour stretches every night, which is pretty fantastic.

I love my daddy

Tomorrow is Joseph’s birthday.  I surprised him with a Playstation 3 as a gift, so now I will probably never see him again except when I pass by his chair in front of the TV :)   I was happy to get it for him, and it counts as both a birthday and an anniversary gift.  (Our 2nd anniversary is next weekend.  We bought my gift today; I’ll post next week with details on what it is.)

Happy with the PS3 (kitty peeking round the side)

We went out today to have birthday lunch and buy accessories and games for the Playstation.  It was -22 C this morning before we left…very bitter cold.  The only thing making it slightly okay is the wind was really low; otherwise it would have been even more intolerable.  However, by the time the sun went down, the air was so cold it hurt to feel it on your skin.  We kept the baby bundled and covered any time she came near the outside air.

Going to need a path to get firewood from the shed

Tomorrow I will be cooking New Zealand lamb for Joseph’s birthday dinner.  My parents will be coming to help enjoy it.  Neither have ever had lamb before, so hopefully they will like it.  If not, Joseph and I will eat it all :)
