Six Months Old Now

  • June 26, 2009 8:09 pm

Well, I can’t believe that Kira is six months old already.  Seems like just yesterday I was still pregnant and waiting anxiously to meet her.  It’s been a fun six months.  We’ve gotten really lucky getting arguably one of the easiest babies (so far!).  She sleeps great, eats great, and is content and rarely cries.  So far she’s healthy and happy and we couldn’t be more thankful.  She’s pretty cute too.  She weighs 18 pounds 6 ounces and is 27 1/2 inches long.

Update on her milestones:  she’s sitting up better and better every day but her arms are still a bit too limp to catch herself when she tips over.  It’s kind of cute to watch her tip over and just fall on her face…although that’s always just an accident because I didn’t catch her in time.  Usually I grab her and set her upright before she topples over all the way.  She’s eating 1st and 2nd foods and moving on to 3rd foods next.  After a few weeks of 3rd foods I’ll start introducing table foods.  She does really well eating rice biscuits by herself, although a lot of biscuit falls back out of the mouth and all over the place.  She can roll over but doesn’t really want to bother with it.  She hates being on her tummy, so she has no desire to roll over and put herself in that position.

She had her first official swim this weekend.  We put her in her cute little swimsuit and dipped her in the pool.  She did not like it.  I think it was her frame of mind – she’d just got up from a nap and was ready for her bottle, so getting plopped into some water outside was not really going over too well in her little head.  We got some pictures and video and that the was the end of that “first”.

WPG2 Disabled and gallery2 removed.

  • June 20, 2009 2:58 am

Well for now my playing with gallery is over.  It was killing the server due to out of control mysql queries.  I intend try again but with a vanilla install and no WP integration. Glad I had not uploaded many pictures.

Joseph’s New Office

  • June 15, 2009 5:37 pm

I redecorated Joseph’s office for his Father’s Day gift.  It basically was our storage room with a desk and an old futon in it and was really quite a mess.  I wanted to give him a room in which he could relax and read, or work, or play computer games, and be comfortable and relaxed doing it.

So I cleaned it all out, did some painting, added a few accessories, and voila!  Three days of grueling hot work later…  Joseph was really happy with it and liked it a lot.

Note:  If you ever consider painting a room red, think about it for 3 days and then realize that 3 days is as long as it will take you to do just one wall.  Red paint is evil.

Gallery for WordPress

  • June 13, 2009 12:13 pm

I am setting up gallery2 using the wpg2 plugin.

It works well without much playing around.  You do have to either find a gallery theme that will fit with your wordpress theme or build one of your own.  I have a bit more modification to the theme I am using in gallery before I will be happy with it.  It is fine for now so I am leaving for later.

One note I would like to in case anyone else has an issue.  I just did a wordpress upgrade and the site went down.  The fix was to rename the wpg2 plugin folder and reactivate.  For future upgrades I will disable wpg2 before the upgrade and re-enable\configure after.

Sitting up!

  • June 9, 2009 1:14 pm

Kira started sitting up unaided on Sunday night while we were at a birthday party for cousin Emma.  She was sitting on my lap watching the kids open presents and I suddenly realized she’d been upright without any support for quite a while.  We put her in the grass and she just sat up and grinned quite proudly.  Yay – a milestone!

PS:  She still refuses to roll over.  She gets about 97% of the way there and then decides it’s not worth the trouble.

PPS:  Okay, it turns out she can roll over and did so 3 times yesterday.  My dad just didn’t tell me because he thought I’d feel bad that I missed it. 🙂
